A String of Masterpieces

On my plane ride out to San Francisco yesterday, I finished reading Stanley Kubrick Interviews, an excellent collection edited by Gene D. Phillips. I was struck by this passage by Richard Schickel from Time magazine in 1975, a few weeks prior to the release of Barry Lyndon:

About his work Kubrick is the most self-conscious and rational of men. His eccentricities — secretiveness, a great need for privacy — are caused by his intense awareness of time’s relentless passage. He wants to use time to “create a string of masterpieces”, as an acquaintance puts it. Social status means nothing to him, money is simply a tool of his trade.

Reminds me of someone else.

McGraw-Hill CEO Confirms Apple Tablet

Terry McGraw, the CEO of McGraw-Hill confirmed in an interview today with CNBC that he has seen the Apple “Major New Product” to be announced tomorrow and that it is in fact a tablet device based on the iPhone OS. You can watch the interview below. The Apple comments start at the 2:48 mark.

“Yeah, Very exciting. Yes, they’ll make their announcement tomorrow on this one. We have worked with Apple for quite a while. And the Tablet is going to be based on the iPhone operating system and so it will be transferable. So what you are going to be able to do now is we have a consortium of e-books. And we have 95% of all our materials that are in e-book format on that one. So now with the tablet you’re going to open up the higher education market, the professional market. The tablet is going to be just really terrific.”

McGraw-Hill is a major publisher in the textbook market (they also own Standard & Poor’s, J.D. Power & Assoc. and other companies). The context of the interview was about how McGraw-Hill is poised to take advantage of growth in the education market with digital textbooks.

I just wonder if Steve is going to refuse the next J.D. Powers award that Apple collects.

palz's OSx86 Blog - This is the most
labor-intesive thing ever!

I am kinda new to hackint0shing, so I will mainly post problems wink.gif
---
Anyway, at the time of writing, I am installing iATKOS on a Dell Dimension 8400. Yes, the '05 one, but after several severe windows problems, I want some use of it, so I will (if the install succeeds) use it as a hackintosh.

Well, I've tried installing iDeneb and iATKOS on my Acer, and if I can help it, I don't want another distro. BitTorrent annoys me at its slow speed and lack of security. iDeneb doesn't even boot and iATKOS restarts when it says: Loading Darwin/x86... BEFORE the install.

FAIL FAIL FAIL.....
