After almost one year since the release of its first commercial game on the AppStore, indie game developer DHG Games Inc. has gently accepted to share its financial results with the public. DHG Games stakeholders believe this can be useful information for other developers starting in the indie game market. Selecting from one of the many platforms now available for direct download is one of the most important decision starting indie game development studios have to make.

Add to myYahoo!Rod Begbie catches VeriFone in some embarrassing hypocrisy regarding their stance on the publication of technical attacks. (He also notes that VeriFone’s FUD attack on Square didn’t happen until after Square reduced its fees to well below VeriFone’s rates.)

Add to myYahoo!VeriFone, a large payment processing corporation, has launched a full-on hit job against Square:
Today is a wake-up call to consumers and the payments industry.Last year, a start-up named Square introduced a credit card readerfor smartphones with the goal of making it very easy for anyone toaccept credit cards through a mobile device. Seems like a greatidea, but there is a serious security flaw that Square hasoverlooked that places consumers in dire risk.
In less than an hour, any reasonably skilled programmer can writean application that will “skim” — or steal — a consumer’sfinancial and personal information right off the card utilizing aneasily obtained Square card reader. How do we know? We did it.Tested on sample Square card readers with our own personal creditcards, we wrote an application in less than an hour that didexactly this.
This is pure, unadulterated FUD. When you swipe a U.S. credit card, the magnetic strip only contains the information printed on the card itself: the card number, the expiration date, your name, etc. Nothing can be “stolen” using Square’s card readers that cannot be stolen by simply looking at the card with your eyes or a camera. Nothing.

So according to The New York Times, it’s journalistically improperto call waterboarding “torture” — when done by the United States, but when Nazi Germany (or China) does exactly the same thing, thenit may be called “torture” repeatedly and without qualification.
Absolutely appalling.

Add to myYahoo!Speaking of Xcode 4, Martin Pilkington has written a novella-length review of it, replete with screenshots:
?Xcode 4 is an interesting contraption. It has 4.0 as its versionnumber, yet it is almost a 1.0. Xcode 1 to 3.2 were almosttransitional, helping the migration from Project Builder to whatwe have now. In a sense Xcode 4 shouldn’t be judged on what it is,but what it shows it will be. The one thought that keeps poppinginto my head while using it is that there is a lot of cool newstuff, but it is lacking. The foundations are pretty much allthere to build an Xcode that can compete with the likes of VisualStudio and Eclipse on all fronts. They just need fleshing outmore. There are very few areas where Xcode 4 is worse thanprevious versions. The majority of those areas are where thefeatures simply aren’t there, but where they may re-appear infuture versions. In every other area it offers major leaps forwardin usability, performance and enjoyment.
